does this seem a bit ott? (it's a junior school btw, so no reception or years 1 and 2)

9.15-10.30 years 3 and 5 have some races or other in the playground

10.30-11.45 years 4 and 6 do the same

kids go in to lunch or something. parents twiddle their thumbs/go home/ line the pockets of the local cafe

1.15 all kids go to local playground for more races, lasting til the end of school...

or am I just a sourpuss?

Sounds awful. Ours starts at 9.30, over by 11.30. Only problem is they do two year groups per day so I had to go to three. V tedious.

Are you expected to stick around all day?

I expect some sitting around will be done by the children.

well I think the expectation comes from your kids - so for me that means I could duck out of the years 4 and 6 races in the morning. but it still essentially screws the whole day up.

oh, our school does that, with family picnic in between.

tis lovely, if you are not prone to severe hayfever and sunburn, with irritable kiddies to boot as you need to follow your child around when they are racing as they do it in team relays IYGWIM.

actually, that sounds rather moany, and not meant completely like that, but it can be tedious at times!

I remember the sports days when I was at school, and it was always on a saturday (so both parents could come), and it was from 9am thro to lunch ending with picnic and icecream. my kind of sports day that
