YR 4 Summer B-Day Party & No one Can come

Firstly pls forgive me if ai cross post this for traffic on other topics

So basically I have a yr4 summer born child and decided to have a party in very early August based on 2 closest friends availability - it has now come to light that although they are available no one else is so that only 3 other school friends can make it out of the 6 invited. Its a venue type of party so not just take x number of kids to an avtivity.

Do I 1) go ahead anyway,
2) reschedule (which may not be that easy and I suppose others may still be away/busy regardless of the date)
3) Invite friends from outside school to up the numbers.

Last year all but one school friend came so 10 in total so my child is quite popular but it seems we have not chosen a good slot.

I just lost track of time and shld have arranged it for mid July which I normally do but thought oh its usually so hectic in mid July with all the other things to do I will have it in the summer and it will all be more relaxed that will teach me 😀

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

So you've got 5 kids coming out of 8? That doesn't seem too bad tbf.

Can you cancel the "party" and turn it into an activity (on the same day) instead?

What does your daughter want to do?

Either invite some others from school, even if she doesn’t often play with them. Or some friends from clubs,

I know a couple of kids with summer holiday birthdays and they’re having their parties in September instead. What does your son think? If he would prefer to have more kids, maybe postpone the party? Or if he’s happy with his closest friends being there, I’d just go ahead with the small group.

We did the birthday party in early September once everyone was back. Book early though as those early weekends are in demand for precisely this reason…

Not a bad number for year 4. Our summer born has their party 1st weekend back, still has 1 or 2 on holidays though.

Thanks All. Yea I normally do the party in mid July to try and avoid these issues, but time got ahead of me this year. And perhaps I had a misplaced sense of confidence given previous parties had had one decline or no declines. Lesson well and truly learnt.😀
Also take on board comment about doing it in early Sept for various reasons this is not possible for us.

I will extend the invites a bit more widely and take a decision say with 10 days to go.

Sorry to hear about the experience of the mum who had 4 confirmed and only one arrived very difficult and upsetting. Its hard not to take these things personally and I don't know why some parents cannot within a reasonable time just say yes or no and if yes just turn up!
