September 2009

TheFallenMadonna · 24/06/2008 10:02

No 2010!

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 10:02

She will start the September just before she turns 5.

So - September 2010.

This is for England schools

TheFallenMadonna · 24/06/2008 10:02

Just as she is turning 5.

jackieglyn · 24/06/2008 10:05

My child was born july 17th 2005, will she start school sept 09?

Yes, nless you are in a two intake area - in which case it would be January 2010.

TheFallenMadonna · 24/06/2008 10:21

It's weird isn't it? My ds is 5 and a half weeks older than his friend, and in the year above her at school.

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 10:22

There are 7 days between my mum and dad's birthdates - but my dad was an academic year ahead of my mum

Pinkjenny · 24/06/2008 10:22

You've started something now - if my child is 5 in May, will she start the Sept before she's 5 or the following year?

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 10:23

Children start school when they are 5 - the September before they turn 4 (or January before they turn 5 if 2 intake schools)

Idobelieveinfairies · 24/06/2008 10:24

sept before she is 5.

Idobelieveinfairies · 24/06/2008 10:25

aug 31st is cut off here-sosept babies are older in the year, and then august babies of the following year are the youngest in theyear..if that makes sense!

DaisySteiner · 24/06/2008 10:27

It's the Septemeber after the child's 5th birthday in this area, but it does vary depending on the local authority.

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 10:28

Which are are you in DaisySteiner?

I thought all England state schools were the year before a child turns 5.

Idobelieveinfairies · 24/06/2008 10:30

yes me too hulababy.

DaisySteiner · 24/06/2008 10:30

Sorry, meant to write Sept after the 4th birthday

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 10:32

Ah, no worries. So, same as rest of England then, lol

DaisySteiner · 24/06/2008 10:34

But it does vary - our neighbouring authority does something totally differnet so some kids stay at pre-school for an extra two terms after all the other rising-5s started school - I think it's rather a shame as it split up friendship groups.

My DD2 was born Dec 2004 so won't start until Sept 2009. She has 2 years in playschool.

Hulababy · 24/06/2008 10:45

Yes, Sheffield has a two intake sysem - sochidlren born between Sep and end March start in the September; and April to August start the following January.

Was one of the reasons (were other reasons too) we opted out of the state system for April born DD.

soremummy · 24/06/2008 10:48

my dd2 was born on 30 aug and started school just after her 4th birthday in the september
