blending in reception

could someone explain blending when reading means. Could someone give me a few examples of word blends that children should be doing in reception.

blending is just putting phonic sounds together - so 'c - a - t' - cat. Some children get this really easily, others (ds1) never use it and just use sight words.

Sorry just have issues with school and what her class teacher said to me. Feel like the class teacher just doesnt really know her. Do you know what kinds of words the average reception child would be blending.

don't know really - dd has been blending since preschool, ds1 never did. I suppose dd is putting together words like 'put', 'that', 'this' so using phonic combinations like 'sh' 'ch' 'th' as well as single words. But she has a lot of sight words as well, so reads more complicated texts as well.

There are a set list of words they should be able to read at the end of reception which have some blends and some sight words.

thancks tortoiseshell, thats what i thought, she has been doing this for ages, she brings tricky words home like, our, more, house, school to memorize, but teacher said she was struggling to blend, but i hear her blend all the time.

Could you answer this honestly mrz for me, all year in reception i have never got 1 comment in my dd reading book, apart from the title of the book is written in. the books she brings home she reads with ease, She hasnt been taught sounds like ai ow. Then the teacher said she struggles with blending, but i hear her blending all the time. The tricky words she brings home are year 1 words. I just dont get it, its like shes talking about another child.

I rarely write comments in children's home reading record books but would if a child was struggling in class with any aspect of reading. Usually I would "catch" the parent and ask if they would pop into see me and discuss it.
Sounds very odd that the teacher hasn't taught all the sounds yet but has introduced Y1 sight words. Have you spoken to her about it?

no, im a secondary teacher so always feel awkward asking the teacher. I get no info at all, but have gut instinct something isnt right.
