Please can anyone recommend any thematic links or resources I can use to teach the topic of chocolate? Are there any day trips around London (not South London as too far) we could go to learn about it, Mayans etc. I know the British museum has a Mayan collection. Brixton chocolate museum is too far. Thank you.

Brixton never had a Chocolate Museum when I lived in SE London - it would definitely have been on my list of What To Do On My Days Off if it had.

And now, it seems it doesn't again. But it looks like its school visits are 'we come to you', or online, so you can at least have the experience without the distance being an issue?

We are SE London and we went to Cadbury World for a day trip - yes it's a long way but it was worth it and there's not anything comparable here.

We used to use the international primary curriculum (IPC) and they had a topic on chocolate (usually for Y4) that everyone loved. I did a quick search a found this: IPC-Chocolate-Part-1.pdf
You might be able to find more that other schools have done with the IPC topic to give you inspiration!

My daughter's school had a chocolate workshop come in. We're Hampshire so they probably would travel to where you are.

I would tie this in to biodiversity a small bit as well, without native plants we wouldnt have chocolate!

I remember my Ds being taught this theme in primary school. I think they also studied extracts of Charlie and the chocolate factory and invented chocolate bars .
