Was wondering if you could share any examples of your year two child's writing, so I can get an idea of where my child is at.

Perhaps share yours first?

This would be mine in Y2, maybe Y3. She has since been diagnosed as dyslexic.

(we’re not religious!)

You're unlikely to get a true representative sample from posts here. If you search online you can usually find standard samples, or you could ask the teacher if you have concerns.

Random spelling test from just before Christmas (don’t have anything more recent). From seeing the birthday cards his friends wrote to him, I’d say most of his class have similar handwriting, some are less neat, but all are joined and legible. Spelling and punctuation varies!

Also my older child had similar writing in year two but now he has to write in pen it’s significantly harder to read!

This is from DS2 when he was mid Y2 - he is one of the younger ones and dexterity has consistently been an issue with his writing. He did meet age-related expectations at the end of the year.

Seems unnecessary. As you can see in the following comment I did share my child’s as an example to try to help.

But you are asking for things to get an idea of where your child is at. By sharing an example you would get much better, specific replies.

It’s impossible to know whether you are worried, in which case my example of dyslexia might be useful, or think they’re ahead in which case not so much.

Wish I hadn’t bothered searching back through my photos now.
