I really liked the local Welsh medium school and I get told don’t worry about not speaking Welsh it won’t matter and tbh that’s not my problem, my problem is the class sizes. I went to have a look around and the Head told me that there is no cap on class sizes in Welsh medium schools and all classes are 30+ but they also have 2 classes of 40+ kids with just one teacher!!
They are currently having an extension built so they said when the extension is finished then the class sizes will be smaller as they will be splitting the classes, which sounds great but Welsh speaking teachers at hard to recruit and they aren’t there now. So great have the extra room but where are they magicking the extra teachers from?
My DP and I don’t speak Welsh, but I’m struggling with my choices of primary schools, pre school one where my DS is at the moment (English medium) and where it was planned he would go, is now not seeming a good fit. he’s a social butterfly but there is 11 children in the class and he’s struggling due to them having ALN or just being highly spoilt kids. And as it currently stands most classes are only 12-15 per year. (No the school won’t close that’s an average size school for our council, with many schools having a lot less kids)
would you be concerned about the class sizes in the Welsh medium school or keep him where he his and hope more kids start that he gets on with
