Moving children from State to private

Hello,
Having been incredibly disappointed by our current state school in Tunbridge Wells we have decided to move our daughters to either Kent College or Somerhill. Rosehill we have ruled out as I didn’t like the head teacher and mead is too far with traffic.

I really loved Somerhill so wondering if anyone could recommend? Really liked the head teacher but I hear she’s leaving soon which is a shame. Kent I also love but class sizes seem very small and single steam.

Any information welcome!

Thank you-

(Ask MNHQ to put Tunbridge Wells in your title!)

Hi, what did you decide to do in the end? Also looking at Somerhill, Kent College and The Mead.

We are at Hilden Grange, we have boys and I think it is hard to beat if you are considering Tonbridge, but we have lots of very happy friends at Somerhill with children moving on to Sevenoaks, TOGS, Tonbridge and Judd. Parents of girls especially love it, Derwent Lodge, the girls’ prep section, is incredibly nurturing and it feeds brilliantly to both grammars and selective independents. Gorgeous site, very sporty, excellent clubs. A new headmistress from an academic Windsor prep is starting at Easter, which feels very positive. Prep is effectively single sex teaching, so perfect if you like a girls’ school feel (friends who have moved from GDST London schools have really liked it), perhaps less so if you want fully co ed. Pre prep is fully co ed and friends speak very highly of it, with lots of very well qualified teachers, many of whom have relocated from excellent London schools.

We moved from a Tunbridge Wells prep that did not meet our academic expectations and, had we not moved to Hilden Grange, we would have chosen Somerhill. We find the drive to the Tonbridge based preps worth it.

This so helpful thank you!

NOT Sommerhill or Kent College. It's only about the £££ shocking stories and goings on covered up.

Could you share what you mean by that? It’s quite a serious claim but not very helpful without any detail or context.
