We are considering LOJH for our son. The exam is this coming January. Does anyone have any knowledge of what the exams entail and whether DS would be disadvantaged without formal voice training? The school seems amazing, I’m just unsure how to prep DS being new to the education system here.

We are practicing Catholics and DS is bored in the state system. LOS appears to have an excellent ethos and standard of expectations. We don’t want to mess up our chance to obtain a place.

Have seen several kids get in without any formal singing lessons. Most had done a bit of piano or something. That said, pretty much all UK state Catholic primaries do a lot of hymn practice so if your child has never done group singing, it might be worth sorting that out pronto.

There’s a long and strong audience participation singing tradition generally here, even in non-Catholic primaries, think Glastonbury festival or the ‘Assembly Bangers’ tour. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf4c7yxbilI

Thanks @MairOldAlibi Assembly songs and church hymns he’s familiar with - at least belting them out. He’s enthusiastic! I’ll focus on the academic side to make sure he passes muster on that front.
