Hello

My little one moved to YR3 and got this app. It is great but the issue I have is that he is unable to carry on playing certain levels due to message "you are already too good at this table"

Is there a way to disable it or if not can you recommend a similar app without this type of restricions?

He likes the app and wants to pratice but only without the timer as it stresses him out even if I hide it. He also needs ability to get back to what was already covered so he doesnt forget.

Hit the button is timed but they can select the times table they do.

This app is also very good for times tables too

Ask his teacher to change the settings if possible. TTRockstars is brilliant and it should automatically adjust as he gets better.

Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds

Quick fire questions on number bonds, doubles, halves, times tables, division facts and square numbers against the clock. Superb!

At my school we limit the amount of time a child can spend on it at home as some children can become obsessed, whereas others were getting their sibling / parent / friend to do it for them thus pushing them up the leaderboard. The whole premise of the APP is that children become secure in the times tables they don’t know well so if it’s restricting him, then he needs to choose a different number to practice.

The problem I face is that my son was very comfortable with x2 but now he was practising x4 for weeks and I noticed mistakes with x2 so wanted him to practice again x2 as a refresher but he cant due to that message.

Is this something changeable in the settings of the app? Because for £9 a year, I have no problem with purchasing additional account so he has more flexibility.

The teachers control the settings I think. DD had it with no controls on. She would just practise 10x table as it was the easiest to get lots of coins, which was pointless for her. The following year they put controls on. It probably will allow him to go back to it later on, but is giving him a break. There are games that mix the times tables up and it gives you more questions from the ones you find hard.

The 2s, 5s, 10s and 11s will lock on the Jamming mode if the child is averaging less than 2.6 seconds per answer on them - because they don't need the practice and need to prioritise other tables. I imagine that if their responses to the 2s on the other games (Studio for instance) fall below that 2.6 seconds level, those tables will be unlocked again.

As others have said, if you want to keep the 2s ticking over, use Hit the Button, but encourage them to try a new table on Jamming before they try it out in Garage and Studio. Note that they will not complete their Heatmap at all on Jamming - it is very much a practice area, not 'the real thing'.

Edit - Also worth noting that if your child goes on to Garage, they will have to complete all the 2s again in great detail - so that is the best way for them to practice them really well.

If it's any consolation, my DS was quite traumatised by the timer initially, but with support and practice, he got used to it and enjoyed moving up the rankings as he upped his speed. His school had a Times Table challenge and he ended up the first child in yr 4 to complete it ( speed and accuracy challenge).

It will unlock them again if he starts making mistakes, answering too slowly or after a period of time. It's really a very clever programme. Just trust it.

Is there an app for a Fire tablet that I haven't found yet? Or does anyone have a tip for making that the only website DS can visit? I can't stand over him constantly but I don't want him to have unbridled access to a browser. It's bad enough he helps himself to YouTube on the TV when I'm not looking.

Idk if it works on a fire tablet, but the Stayfree app is great for blocking website access or app access. If you were able to get TTRS app on the tablet, you could block all the other apps on a schedule.

modgepodge · 07/10/2025 18:51

If he’s so fast on the 2s it’s blocked him from practicing them then he doesn’t need to practice them 😆

Some children will spend hours on the 10s, 11s and 2s to earn extra points to ‘spend’ in the shop. Obviously from a learning point of view, this is a waste of time, so it blocks them to force them to do other times tables.
