Anyone know where I can buy pruple/lilac gingham school dresses? The only ones I have found seem to be £10.

We're moving soon and DD1 will attend her new school for 4 weeks before the summer holidays. The school colours are purple and yellow. The jumper/cardigan is purple and DD1 was extremely excited about this fact.

I have bought her some cheap yellow gingham dresses but also promised her that she could have a gingham dress in lilac/purple. She's only in Reception so I want to pounce on these small pleasures to help her through the transition.

Can anyone help?

£7 in John Lewis: www.johnlewis.com/14900/Product.aspx

M&S do one too

(but think JL might be cheaper if they are still doing free postage)

They had lilac ones in a very large Asda a few weeks ago.

Psychomum5 · 26/05/2008 10:26

asda near me do them for about £4

M&S dresses are very good quality indeed. We've had ones that have lasted for four children (not all mine!), so it's worth paying a bit extra. Also, if she wears it a bit long this summer, it'll be fine for next summer too.

Thank you. I got the yellow ones from Asda but they have not had lilac/purple ones in. Probably because there are no schools around this area which wear that colour. Good to know I might get some for next year in an Asda after I have moved.

Thanks for the John Lewis link. I tried M&S but they were out of stock on the size I need (and a bit more than I wanted to pay)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 23/04/2011 21:24

I think you will find that if you find an area where the school colour is purple the local shops will all have them.

If there are no purple schools in your area you will find them hard to find.

emptyshell · 24/04/2011 16:32

If you're moving - the shops where you're moving TO are likely to have them if they're a local-school uniform colour... even Tescos etc seem to carry the stock based on local uniforms.

Used to have lilac gingham for my old school uniform - my mum made my dress and I hated it because I wanted a shop bought one like all my friends. Think that school's since relaxed things to allow yellow as well - so I'm guessing it's one of the harder colours to find.

Would have loved a purple cardie though - we had horrid burgundy ones - burgundy and lilac - you can imagine the fashion horrors coupled with the tragic 1980s perms - and the photos keep sneaking out of closets and onto facebook to haunt me!

tiggerandpoohtoo · 26/04/2011 00:11

Our local Sainsburys have them and there are no schools nearby with a lilac colour uniform. Although they didn't have a lot in stock, you may find them in a store local to you too. They were 2 for £7.

oops - just seen LawrieMarlows post - snap!

Haha, know which school you're talking about, only ONE school in the country can have that colour combination! Lovely wonderful brilliant school it is too. Sainsbury's had them a month ago, nice traditional style ones with bow to tie at back
