Hi all, we are looking to move to the area near Addenbrookes Hosp in Cambridge and I was wondering if anyone could share impressions/information on Queen Edith and Trumpington Park Primary schools please? We have 8 and 5yo boys, by the time of the move they will be in year 4 and year 1. If you have any other state school in the area that you recommend, please let me know! It will be super helpful 😊

I only know of those 2 schools in passing but I think they are popular. If you are here for the long term then you may want to think about secondary schools. There are a lot of secondary schools in a relatively small area, some of which are a lot more popular than others! Those 2 primary schools feed into different secondary schools.

All the secondary schools have defined catchment areas and feeder schools.

The only one that doesn't is St Bede's. If you are considering this you need to live close (I think Trumpingon is too far) and you must be C of E or Catholic. They never get passed that group on the oversubscription criteria

Thank you so much, agree that secondary should be taken in consideration. We attend church so St Bedes is a strong option.. however I had the feeling Queen Edith area is very quiet, does it sound right? Do you know the area and/or St Bedes school? Trumpington seems less isolated but I heard Trumpington College does not have good reputation.. any impressions on how Trumpington college is currently performing academically and re. behaviour ? Any thoughts on Camb Acad Math Sci Tech (CAMST)? Thanks!

Neither area is particularly isolated. Trumpingon is a village so it does have a good range of amenities. As well as local shops there is also Waitrose. You're right in that Trumpingon college doesn't have the best reputation although it's a relatively new school and I think it's getting better. I've heard more positive things recently.

Queen Edith's does have a few shops and a pub. It's not really a village as such but it's very close to Cherry Hinton which is (or was - it's a suburb of Cambridge now) There is a doctors, dentist, Tesco express, few other shops, a couple of pubs etc

My children don't go to St Bede's but I know a lot that do. It's heavily oversubscribed. The catchment area used to be massive but now it's pretty small. If you don't have an echp you definitely need to be c of e or Catholic and have the form signed by a vicar. My children have plenty of friends who lived close enough and were committed Christians but were Baptist and therefore didn't get a place.

CAST only takes children from year 9. As the name suggests it's science focused. I think I'm right in saying you can't do a language at GCSE there. I know children who have done very well but as with a lot of technical colleges you do get a lot of children who have struggled at other secondary schools and go there for a fresh start.

Hope that helps!

Also moving. Heard good things about Morley Memorial too which isn’t very far from the hospital. For secondary my understanding (from the school) is that all of the city would be fine for my (Catholic) kids. We are also moving into the parkside catchment tho.

Does anybody have any further thoughts on this?
We are between Morley Memorial and Queen Edith.
