Ie fun games which use maths skills - but aren't obviously "Maths"

Shut the box and roulette. Mine are much older now but these were ones we used to play.

Agree Shut the Box - we played a lot of it at those ages.

We used to look for house numbers when out for walks and count things, ie counting out cutlery to lay the table, laundry when folding and putting it away. We used chanting and rhymes to help make numbers familiar, ie 2,4,6,8 who do we appreciate? Sharing out grapes / berries evenly is good too. Any board game with dice helps. Things like ludo and snakes and ladders are great. Plus what the other pps said.

Pass the pigs - you get a certain number of points for the combination of ways the pigs land, so lots of mental addition
scrabble - adding up points, double and triple points scores etc

Baking/cooking is really good for this - weights and measures, cooking time, adding up etc. Pick a cookie recipe and make double quantities, get them to help calculate.

Heck Meck
Brilliant game and uses mental maths and lots of probability

Treebo · 18/06/2025 11:14

Snakes and Ladders, dominoes, monopoly, counting a large number of coins!

Battleships is a good one for maths-but-not-obviously-maths.

The game of '21'
Google "dice games to teach maths skills" and you'll find loads - I like 'pig' for example
