Am I going to send my kids nutty if we move schools at v. short notice and maybe twice in a year ?

Oh FFS, it's all gone wrong.

Kids were / are in a great school, private, very small (but part of a bigger group), great teachers, small (possibly too small classes).

I posted on this before, but we have had a massive dispute over fees, all gone totally wrong and the school will not honour a quote they have given us for this academic year. We have had two difficult conversations with the finance cow (who was talking bailiffs etc). We have been to see a solicitor who says we are totally in the right.

Anyway, our fear is that we rock up to school one day and get pulled into the office and told kids are not welcome. We think that this is really possible given the v. fecking aggressive stance this woman in finance took.

So, we have a plan B - great fantastic state school, really small, lovely teachers. We took the kids to see it today and they loved it. The kids in DD's yr2 class had all written her welcome letters. DS only cares they have a great playground.

So, do we make tomorrow their last day at their current school and move them after HT to the new state school?

Add into this the house being on the market and that we are looking to move areas in the summer if we can ever sell the house! So, then the kids would go to another school in September. This might not happen, who knows? Housing market is sht, so we might not ever sell this.

So, if we move them 2 times in 6 months, will they cope OK? will they turn nutty? I am so scared of doing the wrong thing for them.

They will cope - kids are resiliant and it is good for them to socilaise with different people. I was at 7 different schools in 4 different countries and managed fine. It broadens your horizons.

Thanks Rumpel - what do you think to making tomorrow their last day in this school though? Tis all a bit sudden?

If it was me i would probably wait until the summer and see if you have sold the house. if not then move them to this state school you've been to today.

DD2 in 4 th school in year 3 - and perfectly balanced child
go with your gut instinct - moving them by choice might be less traumatic than them rocking up and being told they aren't welcome? They already know something is up as they've visited another school etc?
take a deep breath and do what you think is right
can you buy new uniform over half term?

My dds moved school twice in 6 months, cos we moved twice. They were absolutely fine. they were middle of yr 1 and reception the first time, and early on in yr 2 and yr 1 the second time. The second time was at about 2 hours notice when we realised after a house move just how awful the commute back to their second school would be.

it wasn't as bad as we feared, so many children move schools that actually quite a few of their friends from the old and new schools have moved in the last 2 years as well. friendships are pretty fluid at this age too even if the children don't always recognise them as being so.

Really, it hasn't spoilt their childhood or school progress at all.

Did you do it today? If so I hope it went well and yeah I think sooner better than later is good for all of you. Remember your stress is picked up by them and she sounds like a bossy old mare who needs to be poked in the eye! Good luck

Can you home school them until you move? I'm going through exactly the same thing at the moment (not with private school fees though), it is a real dilemma I know. Home schooling does seem to be a good idea for the interim, until things are a little more settled.
