Phonic Screening Y1

Morning all - how are the screening tests going for your Y1 children? Mine says apparently he did it and scored well, but no news from the school yet...

My little boy came home on Monday and said he’d done his, and they told him his score too, which places him at a pass. School didn’t mention it to me, but I asked the teacher at pick up if he’d passed and they said he had, which is great news.

Good idea to ask the teacher - I will ask as well. He told me the mark he got which is really good but would be nice to have it confirmed. Well done to your little one too!

I did the screenings with my class early this week and am sending home results in end of year reports. The pass mark is usually 32 but isn’t officially confirmed until the testing window closes as it’s possible to change. I would be surprised if it did though as it’s been 32 for years!

I'm surprised some teachers have shared the results with parents already as the pass mark hasn't been set yet. As above, it's been 32 for years so it's very likely it will be again but nothing is certain. Even if some children have clearly passed with a high mark, it's not fair to confirm to those parents if you have other children who are cuspy and you're waiting for confirmation of the pass mark before sharing with their parents.
