Improving DS aged 5 confidence and concentration

Went to pick up DS from school today and the teacher asked to talk to me. He is worried about DS confidence in class. Apparently he will instigate talking etc as a distrcation to doing owrk, the teacher has to move him to get him to focus. He beleives that DS uses the distraction as a way of not doing his work as he is worried that he cant do it. I am worried as he is quite confident at home, but his concentration is terrible. Can anyone suggest anything to help.
TIA

Hey daisycat - if it's any consolation at all,my DS also aged 5 has the attention of a gnat - actually that is being unfair to gnats....

seriously, he has changed over the last few months and is getting better, but I think they are only diddy and it's a lot to ask in school....all the boys mums in our class say the same about their DSs too.

What year group is he in?

He is in class 1, was born in August so only scrapped into that year, sometimes I wonder if we should have held him back and he should be in reception now.

Musical instrument; helps with concentration, hand-eye coordination and confidence.
