Moving advice

Hi all. I was hoping to get some advice around the process of moving house and how people navigate it as I'm finding it very overwhelming.... I've got to move to essex for a course, and it needs to be somewhere that's commutable for me to get to the univeristy in colchester as well as to london for my partners job. My son is in year 1 and I had thought it might be better to move over summer holidays so he could start at the start of term. However as we will be renting, we won't have a confirmed address until maybe July time, and every single school I've contacted bar 1, have no places and waiting lists in his year. I had been ringing round first as I thought this might be more sensible, eg try to move to an area that had some availability, but it just seems like a nightmare. Is it always like this? What happens if we move and he has no place? We live in bromley at the moment and would have to rent out our current home so there is no way I can keep him there until they find a place.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The LEA has to offer you a place. It may not be of your choosing and they may have to go over PAN to allow them in.

Thanks. So perhaps it's best that I just choose the best place for us to live, and they will need to provide a school? Are there any rules about how far away it can be? TIA.

Normally it would be within the same LEA but there are no rules about how far away it is.
