Hey, if you didn’t get your child’s 1st choice school for Reception, did any of you have much luck with the school waiting lists/continuing interest? Did anyone that got through on the waiting list still have to be really close to the school?

Thank you

The waiting list is still in the order of the original criteria if that’s what you mean. So looked after children, siblings, distance for example. So you can move up or down the list.

It’s impossible to tell if there will be any spaces. In some places people come and go from an area. In others people rarely ,ove away. In some there will be parents who decide to send their dc to a private school.

Last year we did get a place at our preferred school after almost a month which is unusual from what I have been told for an oversubscribed school. I called their admissions officer a week after the first offers went out to see where we were in the waiting list (high but we were told the position can move up and down) and to mentally prepare myself. Good luck!

Hi there- do you mean you got a place a month after offers day or a month in to term please?

Opposite way round for us... got first preference on allocation day... then DHs job relocated by the time she started. We told them when we knew in the July.
