Just interested to see how many in the county got their first choice? We’re in the next cohort for applications but I understand there is a low birth rate in the area.

I’ve got one going in 2026 too :)

My older kids got into their first choices no problem at all - you might need to narrow down the area you’re looking at as some of Surrey is very populous and some not.

Surrey is quite a big county. I am Surrey Heath and we got what we wanted and most other mums I know did

Well I’m looking at schools in The Dittons area but we’re actually out of catchment but I live in Hope!

I know pupils at Long Ditton Infant school who live quite far (towards Surbiton town centre or Tolworth) and still got in, so it’s worth trying. The current Reception classes aren’t full for instance.

That’s very helpful thank you. Do the parents rate it well?

Be mindful that low birth rates often mean schools reducing their PAN, merging of even closing as schools with falling numbers are financially going to struggle.

@cananyonehelpme36 , it's hard to get your head round if you are coming from somewhere where the primary schools are oversubscribed but the combination of the falling birth rate and move out of SW London during the pandemic means there is not the demand for places in this part of Surrey. There is also an abundance of private prep schools in the Claygate / Ditton / Esher area none of which are full either. For example Shrewsbury House is closing its Claygate pre-prep and moving it to its prep site in long ditton for September. What you should consider is a house in the catchment for Hinchley wood secondary school and getting a place at a feeder primary, you need both criteria to get into HW secondary which is harder to get a place at than Esher High.

It’s amazing! The junior school, Long Ditton St Mary’s, is even better. It’s also one of the 4 feeder schools for Hinchley Wood. Check the Ofsted report.

Second Long Ditton Infants and Long Ditton St Mary's. They share a headteacher who is amazing!
