Y3 spelling support

My Y3 daughter is struggling with spelling.

She is all for rules and structures, and the sheer number of words that are exceptions, and learning them all is getting to her.

Her homework is all about exceptions. She’s also working through an app provided by the school.

What I’m looking for is a resource that sets out the various rules one by one as context for the exceptions. This seems to work when I do it ad hoc. Can anyone help please?

When you say set out the various rules as context, do you mean things like 'The /s/ sound can be spelled 's' 'ss' but also 'ce' and 'sc''?

The 'Grow the code' sheet from Little Wandle lists all the potential graphemes of the basic sounds, and each one would normally have a group of spelling words associated. Like words spelling 'er' as 'or' would include e.g. word/ worm/ work/ world.

Is this what you mean? They do ramp up in year 3.

Thank you - yes, something like that is really helpful.
