Doodle Maths Age?

DD is in Y2 and her school use Doodle Maths. Each week the class teacher sets some homework, which we always do and when we're not rushing about we try and do at least 10 minutes of Doodle Maths a few times a week.

Yesterday I got an email to say that DD, who is 7 in June, has a Doodle Maths age of 5.7 which has alarmed me considerably.

Can anybody explain how this Doodle age works? I have contacted her class teacher as no concerns have been directly raised.

Also, familiar with Doodle here. I wouldn't take any notice of the age defined by Doodle. It can fluctuate from one day to the next. Is she able to do the maths that is set, if so then there isn't a problem.

The quoted age is an average and calibrated based on the baseline and can be influenced by a child having a particularly difficult time one session or sometimes, from experience, the computer system not being that great and requiring odd answers e,g, rounding up rather than accuracy.

Thank you.

Is the baseline something they do in school or is it purely based from Doodle Maths? So in other words the more often you use it the higher the age?

If she's only just started it, it will be low. It will keep increasing the age as she goes through topics she already knows - new topics are introduced when she is regularly getting almost all questions correct on the first try. She'll probably fly through the majority of topics early on, then slow as she finds her actual level. DS's doodle age increased by over a year in his first 6 months while he was finding his level - now he's found it, he roughly increases by a year each year.

If she's been doing it a while, as a PP said, she could have just found a topic particularly tricky, so got stuck at a particular level. You could encourage her to mark questions as "tricky" if she gets them wrong a couple of times and talk through them with her.

Thank you. That is really helpful.
