Cheltenham Independent Schools - Dean Close vs. Berkhampstead vs. Airthrie

Does anyone have any experience of which independent primary school is the best? We’re looking for somewhere that’s more ‘nurturing’ in feel. We discounted Cheltenham College on account of it feeling too competitive.
We love Berkhampstead, but the commute across town is a major drawback (does anyone have any experience with this? Is it manageable?). Plus the lack of senior section is a worry in terms of stressful exams at 11 years old.
Dean Close seems good, but the something feels like it’s missing and I’m not sure what (we just didn’t get that ‘feeling’), plus I’ve heard some negative things about their pastoral care.
Airthrie is a curve ball and wondered if anyone has any experience here?
Curious to hear people’s thoughts on the different options and what you would prioritise - an easy commute every day to a school that is, on paper, great, but not your first choice, or the place that feels right but comes with possibly an awful commute.

I had two DDs who attended Berkhampstead (wonderful school, or at least it was 20-plus years ago!) both very, very happy there- both got scholarships to senior schools.

One went on to Dean Close and was not so happy there. Probably not the school's total fault, but definitely not so nurturing as Berkhampstead. Again, this was a long time ago and my DD didn't join DC until age 11.

I always liked the look of Airthrie, but it's been taken over by DC I believe? however, its own ethos may remain.

Sounds as if you have already visited Berky, but did you know they have an Open Day on Saturday 15th? I believe you have to register first.

Have you looked at Wycliffe? For some reason it’s not on people’s radars, but such a kind and nurturing atmosphere- ambitious, diverse, modern and evolving.
