Hampton school year 2 place

My DS has an offer from Hampton prep for year 2 for which we need to make a decision very soon. He currently attends a state primary where he is happy at but not challenged enough. We have been preparing him slowly for 7+ for schools such as KCS, SPJS and Westminster. I have three questions:
(1) we will have to relocate for attending the school, is the school worth the move?
(2) should we continue preparing for 7+? How much better are SPJS and KCS to Hampton boys?
(3) Are there any Hampton mums who can share their experience particularly around the coach service?
thanks a lot.

As a boy, he can do 7+8+9+10+ before 11+ if he is academic, personally I think Hampton 7+ not worthy if you need to travel quite far but good choice if you are local. We got an offer, but decided not taking it due to distance. I love Hampton but their 7+ is easier than SPJ, and plus junior need to pass exam to go to senior.

That’s true. But SPJ and KCS are two schools that are realistically better than Hampton. It isn’t sure that my son would get through. Where did your son eventually go? I was thinking going to Hampton would take the pressure off him and us.

I think it really depends what you’re after. The majority get an assured place at Hampton who come in at 7+, so there isn’t any exam. That takes away all the stress of the 11+. Yes, the intake is slightly broader at seniors than the other two schools, but if you are going to get 9s, you’re going to get them in any of the schools I’d say….

You are probably overthinking this. If you believe your ds is capable of being prepped for KCS/ St Paul's 7plus while he is currently in Year 1 and you have a Hampton prep place for year 2 then he will probably have the ability to get into Hampton at age 11 without going to a prep school.
Only move to the Hampton area if you definitely want Hampton school at age 11 or if you are also interested in Tiffin at age 11.
