South Hampstead +4 waitlist and Channing offer

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding my daughter. She’s currently at Broadhurst, and we’ve just received her 4+ results. She has been offered a place at Channing and waitlisted at South Hampstead.

I’d love to hear from others about how much movement there typically is on the South Hampstead waitlist and whether there’s a good chance she might get a place. Also, I’d really appreciate any thoughts on Channing, it was not my first (or even second) choice, so I’d love to hear from parents with experience there.

DD2 was at Broadhurst several years ago and waitlisted at SHHS. I missed a call from them at 12:01 on the response deadline day and DW missed a call from them a minute later. By the time she called them back, they'd already offered the place to another girl. We'd both forgotten about SHHS because we'd already accepted a school that we'd preferred to them. But, if it matters to you, do make sure that your phone is on, it's not muted, and that you're not in a meeting when the response deadline expires.

I’ve had two DD go all through at Channing and have loved the school. Really supportive, great pastoral care but also gets the most out of the girls academically. The new head is great.

@ProudDadOfTwo That’s really unfortunate that they didn’t hold the offer for you, but it’s a very good tip, my phone is always on silent, so I’ll be extra mindful of that. Thanks for sharing your experience!

@londonmum789 It’s wonderful to hear that from a parent’s firsthand experience, thank you for sharing! We also really like Channing, but we’re trying for South Hampstead as it would make life so much easier for us because of the location.

not sure if it’s the same this year but last year SHHS had their offers day 2 days before the acceptance deadline (not sure why so late!) so a lot of parents who had multiple offers were holding on until after then…

Yes I can confirm that it is the same this year. Offer holders day is on Monday.

So today South Hampstead had her offer holder event, we called and been told some have not paid their deposit yet, we have to wait til Wednesday, also we received the call from Channing asking if we have made the decision, hopefully we both get what we wish for our daughters. same - I had the exact same conversation and phone call with Channing. Fingers crossed we both get it!

It wasn’t us who had the Shhs offer but my friend said that the waiting list moved only on the morning of acceptance day (not sure if it’s a strategy to get people to accept without having time to think). She said one of her dd’s friends got off the waitlist at SHHS during the summer.

@Hellohelloschool Thank you for your comment. It’s already been a really tough week, I’m hoping we get an offer tomorrow, and that it will all be worth it.

I know someone at another v academic school, often mentioned in same breath as SHHS - who got an email literally after the noon deadline saying they can have a place but they had to accept by that evening

We were also on the waitlist - but no luck!

@Serahv so sorry to hear. We were convinced there might be some movement on the list but it seems as though there were a lot of acceptances this year and very little movement which is a shame.

i assume you accepted Channing? Best of luck

@anon7683 I think they waitlisted more than last year, saying that base on the waitlist they offered our nursery, which was 6!!
we accepted Channing yesterday, I know it’s a wonderful school but my heart was set on South Hampstead, so I need to get used to the idea… how about you?

@Serahv they offered six wait list places to children from your nursery?

Yes DD was offered a place at Habs and we declined.

Thank you! We have a WL offer, but don’t have much hope that we will get a firm offer as we have passed the offer deadline now.
