What does your LO wear to school in summer? Do I really need to buy...

...a fleece?

DS1 is in his second term in reception. Uniform is a polo shirt (school's own in yellow or plain white), grey trousers and bottle green sweatshirt or fleece. He's had the sweatshirts for winter, but they're now too hot, and a bit awkward for him to get on and off himself. So am wondering whether to buy a fleecy cardie from school or make do with his own summer coat for outdoors on cooler days. Any advice please? Thanks!

the only thing to be aware of is that if you make do with the coat he may run into 'take your coat off and leave it on your peg' on cooler days when he'd rather keep the extra layer on indoors.

With ours, in summer they just wear the polo shirt and shorts (with coat outside if needed) - the fleece seems to be just an extra bit of warmth that some people have in addition to the sweat shirt in summer.

Do you have to wear school jumpers, or can you get a cheap one from Asda etc?

If so I would get a plain jumper and send him with a waterproof. My dd has just gone into her summer dress and she wears a plain cardie and takes a zip up cagoul thing.

Thanks - you're right about indoors, of course. Think I may be finding it hard to imagine it being chilly on such a beautiful day!

stuff a sweat shirt in his school bag for the days when he is cold inside.

He struggles a bit getting the sweatshirt on and off. And yes, it is "supposed" to be the school jumper, although the girls seem to wear a whole array of different cardies and jumpers

Thanks - did give in today and bought one. Am sure it will be very useful (grits teeth and hopes DS doesn't become one of those kids who wears it hanging somewhere off the shoulder...)
