Does anyone know anything about volunteer work in local primary schools? how do I go about finding vacancies?

I would ring the head and ask - especially if you volunteer yourself, you never know what could turn up.

Good Luck!

Have a word with your childs teacher most of the time they bite your hand off if your offering to help. In my sons school you fill a form in when they go in reception saying which days you can help but i'd just mention to teacher your interested. They're always asking for help with school trips volunteer for them get some brownie points with teacher.

Mention it to the teacher
At our school they are always asking peole to come and read and do the odd craft

You'd need to ask at the school itself asit tend sot be ad hoc. Some do, some don't but you may need to be CRB'd which could be a pita for them to do for this term now. Otherwise see if there is an accredited Helping in Schools course available near you as that would help with finding a voluntary placement as part of the course.

Our school has cut down a lot on parent helpers on normal school days, you do need to be crb'd, and can never help in a class that your child is in,but we do run the helping in schools course and I agree that joining that would be a good stepping stone.
