House/School move

Hi we were due to move to a new area for primary schools. And we were meant to have moved back in October however our chain has been awful and we still haven’t even exchanged. We keep getting told we will exchange but still nothing. In the interim we thought we should rent. We plan to genuinely move into the rental by 15th Jan so we can apply to the correct local council for the school and then if our house goes through we would update with the new house details in the evidence section by 29th Jan hopefully.
do You think this would be ok? I don’t want to do anything that would jeopardise and make me look like I’m doing something I shouldn’t be. I’m one to do Everything by the book so just want to ask everyone’s opinion on whether we should move into the rental and apply from there or just wait until house may go through?.
