Hi all, looking at schools in for DD starting next year. Does anyone have recent experience of Chalfont Valley E-Act in Little Chalfont?

Following this thread too!

I think we're both after the same info! Have you done a tour?

no we are still at early stage exploring the Amersham/Chorelywood area. Sounds like you are already living there in Chalfont? Love to hear what you think about the area/village and whether you are local or moved from somewhere and why you decided to move

Kingofthetyrantlizards · 09/01/2025 11:51

Yes, we moved here from London during covid. We mainly chose the area as it was a midway point between both our families, and had good schools (we didn't actually have kids at that point!). We also both needed to stay close to London for work.

We really like it here, lots to do in the area, green but close to London/bigger towns. The village itself has some lovely restaurants as well. We chose LC over Amersham or Chesham as it's on both met line branches so you can get Amersham and Chesham trains, plus the Chiltern Line.

congratulations on the move and kids! We visited Chorely last weekend and we are planning to visit Chalfont and Amersham this coming Sat! Houses look more practical in Chalfont and we weren’t convinced by Chorely. Which part is nice and which part is not so nice? We are in a more tricky situation as our kids are older and in year transfer seems challenging! Love to hear recommendation on places to visit! Many thanks!

Kingofthetyrantlizards · 09/01/2025 21:11

Thanks! We weren't keen on Chorleywood either, can't really remember why!

I don't think there are any really bad parts of LC, the Bramblings is an estate that had/has a reputation, but I've not heard much in a while.

You've got a fair few country parks/NT places nearby, the model village near Bekonscot is also worth a trip, odds farm is also good for younger ones.

@Kingofthetyrantlizards did you manage to get any more useful info? Unfortunately I haven’t. We didn’t make it to LC last weekend but hoping to explore this weekend. Any recommendations on where to go for coffee / lunch there or Amersham. Thank you

@Kingofthetyrantlizards and @BuzyMumm did you ever get any insights into Chalfont Valley? The latest results look brilliant (59.6% of kids getting into the grammar schools - which is the same as Little Chalfont Primary) and the January 2025 Ofsted also great. But the internet still sounds very negative / patchy about the school - is that just a historical thing?

Kingofthetyrantlizards · 22/09/2025 15:44

So after much deliberation we ended up putting Chalfont Valley as our first choice and got in. DD started a couple of weeks ago and seems very happy so far. Still no idea if we made the right choice but it's more convenient than LC primary and that swung it for us.

We have decided to stay where we are given the tough housing market.

cm118 · 22/09/2025 21:00

Thanks both! And @Kingofthetyrantlizards glad your little one is enjoying it so far

@Kingofthetyrantlizards how has your experience been so far? We are considering this school for our DD. I saw that there were very few children in the last 2 incoming years (reception and year 1), is that right? Curious why that is.

Kingofthetyrantlizards · 06/03/2026 08:05

Yes, it's a small intake but I think that's down to a low birth rate - they do say they tend to get bigger in later years as people move to the are for the grammars. My DD seems happy there though - as my DH pointed out people play thousands a year for small classes so we shouldn't complain and their results still look good.

Happy to chat further if helpful.
