Primary schools in West Hampstead/Kilburn

Anyone have any feedback on the following schools? I will be attending open days for all. Context is will be trying for state primary and grammar/private secondary route.

  1. Emmanuel CofE - seems a good option but requires church attendance.

  2. West Hampstead primary - not sure how strong the academic performance is

  3. Kingsgate - looks to have good ratings and perform well academically

I know there is Mulberry too so would welcome any experiences on that, although most likely not to go for a private option.

Thanks!

Hi there, I live in the area so have the following comments for the 4 schools you have mentioned:
1, Emmanuel - great school. Difficult to get in unless you are regular church goer or live maximum of 0.2miles from it. Property prices around the school are high so mostly middle class folks.
2.West Hampstead Primary - this is an excellent school with great sense of community. Our neighbours went to this school and absolutely loved it. A lot of the students live in the wealthier part of West Hampstead / West Hampstead village (ie area north of the thameslink station).
3.Kingsgate - although it’s rated “outstanding”, from word of mouth, this school’s reputation amongst mums is not that great with pastoral care issues - best to check on Facebook mums groups for more information. A lot of students live in Kilburn (ie south of West Hampstead station) as that’s their local catchment as opposed to West Hampstead itself
4.Mulberry is great however only goes to year 2 (it’s a top choice for 7+) so you will need to change schools before grammar/private secondary.

hope that helped but my best suggestion is to ask this in the local West Hampstead mums group. You will get more responses

Thanks so much for your detailed response @Hellomelody ! Really useful. The local WH mums group - is this a Facebook thing? Thanks

Yes just search West Hampstead mums on Facebook and there are around 10k members.

Kingsgate is high performing but not very ethnically diverse and supposedly quite strict. It has great after school and breakfast club provision at affordable prices. The campus is split into two with up to Year 3 near West Hampstead Station and Year 4-6 closer to Kilburn.

We looked at this a few years ago but the KS1 location was just a little too far for us to get there walking each day.

Thanks both.

i did read that Kingsgate is not that ethnically diverse which is putting me off slightly - I will see initial impressions from the open day too.
