In your opinion, what would be the best age for sex education in schools? (And at what age is it actually done?)

Just reading about it on a German discussion board and there most children seem to cover the topic at age 8.

sounds about right

Depends what you are teaching, 8 seems a reasonable age to start, I think all bases should be covered by 12, with follow up all through secondary

In our school it is done in Year 5 (age 9/10) and then again in Year 6 in case they've forgotten anything.
I think that's fine, but frankly, mine have known the basics since they were tiny, so the actual biological details weren't big news. The video the school uses covers the emotional aspects pretty well though.

My sons school is covering it next week. He is six. He is also in a mixed class with year one and two and three....

I don't really like the idea of treating it as a separate area
I would like to see discussiono f pregnancy, relationships, love, sex, breastfeeding etcetc integrated into the teaching of other subjects rather than making it The Talk
but about 7 or 8 for a discussion of the mechanics maybe
