School photos digital options and printing

School pictures cost a bomb and I'm wanting to get copies for parents and grandparents and wondering what others have done?
I'm considering ordering the digital copy and ordering them elsewhere if anyone has recommendations. I'm just worried anywhere else the quality wont be great , like I wouldn't use Snapfish for large prints

Personally I would just take photos of your child at home in their school uniform. The school ones are not worth the money, honestly. You can then take as many photos as you like and choose the one you like best rather than hoping the school one turns out well.

Then upload your photo to an online printing service, choose the sizes you want. It will be much cheaper. I don't know why you think the quality won't be great, you are not ordering a poster print. It will depend on your camera phone and you can contact Snapfish or wherever to ask advice on the size you want.

Previously we did have the digital ones from school but my son is now 21 so that was when camera phones were quite frankly shit.

We ordered ours digitally and got them printed at Boots. They are brilliant

As it's her first school photo I'd like to get it, they turned out great too. And with getting a large print like 10x15 I was just worried if I went to somewhere like boots or something it wouldn't be as good quality as ordering the school ones straight up

I get it, my friend used to be a professional photographer and she will tell you it is ridiculously expensive for what you get and what you could do yourself. It is like a mini bar in a hotel room.

Again places like Boots or online photo printing will all depend on the quality of the digital download provided by the company. I know we complained one year because they dropped the DPI down compared to previous years. We tended to just buy the class photo rather than the individual ones because I wasn't inviting 29 children to my house

These days camera phones take incredible photos but it depends on your camera phone. I do understand why you want to buy it from them though. Out of curiosity how much is the digital download?

Any photo printing shop will be as good. As long as you don’t buy the low res digital images (generally ones that say for mobiles or social media are not high resolution). I’ve always gone for the digital option.

The digital photo should be fine to have printed elsewhere. 10x15 (assuming that is cm) isn’t very big.

Ours is £17 for a digital download of one photo. It's disgusting! But they're clever enough to know that a lot of families will likely want three hard copies (one for parents and then a copy for each set of grandparents) so they deliberately make their packages unworkable for this so you have to spend more buying them individually. I don't like it at all! And to add insult to injury our council company that does all the schools airbrushes the kids and even photoshops groups of four to make up the whole class photo. (Which I suspect is done so that it's a long photo that doesn't fit standard frames). The whole thing irks me! 🤣

My own phone isn't too great. It's £15 per digital photo which isn't too bad id say as you can print as many as you like off

My daughter just had hers done and it's £30 per digital photo and I'm absolutely not paying that!

I think if you do buy the digital copy the quality should be fine for printing elsewhere surely that's what you're paying for?
