Help choosing junior school

I'm feeling a bit stuck over our choice of junior school for son who is in year 2 at an infant school. There are two possibilities:

  • School 1: Where 90% or more of his infant school classmates will attend as they get priority in the admissions arrangements and its Ofsted outstanding as of last year. Good facilities (e.g., STEM room, computer room, pottery room, forest school etc.) But, it is a 25 minute drive from home and is 4 form entry.
  • School 2: He will have one or two friends attending this school which is just over a 5 minute drive away and 3 form entry. Facilities are not as good. We liked it less than school 1, but it is closer to home. Children will nearly all move on to local secondary school from here, but we think we may go privately at this point.

After school care available at each. Would be grateful for your thoughts!

School 1. Sounds a no brainier. You will be getting in the car anyway. Can you get a place?

That is uncertain. We get priority based on his attendance at the infant school but, because we live so far away, we may not get in based on distance within that category. (Infant school is in the middle, us one side of it, the junior school the other, all quite spread out hence the long drive).
