Pupils voted to ditch school ties

My sons' primary school recently asked the kids to discuss improving the school uniform and they voted to discontinue the school tie. Shame, it looked smart.

This leaves my two sons, 8 and 9, with a white school shirt and blue school sweatshirt. But what is the best/smartest way of wearing these two together? Ie top button done up/undone, collar in/out? Having the tie on kind of kept everything in place in a way!

Whatever kid wants.

School ties at any age are pointless in my humble opinion!
polo shirt, buttoned up. Sweatshirt over.

Shirt buttoned up, collars out. Never got mine to use the top button very often though! I used to hate the prinary school ties on elastic. Most didn't look particularly smart, got stretched, stained, etc. If they are to wear ties, teaching them how to tie them is much more useful.

Neither my kids primary or secondary school have ties. The primary school have a shirt under V neck jumper and the secondary school have a round neck. Both have top shirt button open and the collar usually sits out.

Was thinking tip button undone, shirt collar in would look smartest but it will probably ping out 😁

DH's office is more casual post Covid and they have ditched ties too.

Shirt with top button undone seems to be the way to go.

The company i work for also ditched ties for the men in Covid

I think, with the exception of the most formal workplaces, ties have totally fallen out of fashion, they look dated now!

No ties on doctors for many years now (except bow ties on a few, and I think that signifies a certain something about the wearers), and not in my husband’s industries (management consultancy and then financial IT) since the millennium.

Top button undone definitely. I don’t think collar in or collar out makes much difference, as I suspect however you arrange it, it will be collar out within the first half hour!
