Winchester primaries - Western

Hello,
A question for anyone with children at Winchester primary schools, in particular Western primary.
We are moving to Winchester in the new year (2025) and will be applying for school places for an 8 yr old and 5 year old. I've been in touch with most of the primaries and they are pretty full except for Western which would have space for both children.
Does anyone have any experience of Western primary? I know it's got some capacity due to the Westgate all-through school but I was wondering if it was still considered a good school?
I've seen some other posts on here which say it is, but they are all a bit out of date.
Thanks very much!

My knowledge of Western is from a little while ago too, but it was always a really lovely school. Caring with a family feel. Lots of green space. It's been a bit lower on numbers since Westgate Lower school opened, just because the two schools are so close together and the catchments overlap. All the schools in Winchester are good but I would choose Western over Westgate personally.

A friend's kids go there. She's been very impressed, says the head is lovely.

I'm surprised most others are full though, there's been low birth rate for a few years.

Essentially all the Winchester primaries are good, so I wouldn't worry.

Thanks very much for the info! It sounds a good option for us then as the others only have space for one or other child.

Echo western over westgate for primary, depends on your priority for secondary and where you will live.
