Hi all,
just posting to see if any previously successful parents of children could give tips on prepping for 7+ exam at Latymer?
I would love for my son to get in, I really think he’s capable but saw that only 22 boys and girls get accepted!
Eek!

There's a whole thread on 7+'for you to look at.

my DD sit 7+ at Latymer last year. It seems to be more competitive for boys then girls (just because more boys are applying) although I’ve heard last year they had 350 applicants. The 1st round is very traditional math and english exam. Math is at the level of Year 3 I’d say. We did Bond books 7-8 and then 8-9 and Schofield and Smiths (level 2 I think which is equivalent to mix of year 3 and 4). Looking back, being confident with year 3 curriculum should be enough. During Christmas break my DD did a few math papers from ‘Exam Paper plus’ website just to get used to time management and doing the paper itself. You can buy their Latymer papers.
in English they are asked to write a story (think the topic was ‘If I had wings’) and do comprehension. So comprehension is also year 3 level. Creative writing is all about practice - the prep will depend on an individual child, some need little help some need more. Comprehension same - we used Bond books but didn’t do much or often. My DD always found it boring so we did bare minimum to ensure she had some practice

2nd round (this is only for those who passed round 1) is group activity and interview - they were grouped into small groups and had to build something as a team, during that time someone from the teaching team had an informal chat with them - so I’d say no prep is needed for this
