Good morning
We are thinking our boy to join Milbourne Lodge next year.
Any feedback from parents that have kinds there would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi,

I would advise to go and see the school in person. The school is not what it used to be. Discipline and Academic level is in decline. It is not Pastoral. It has always had a bad reputation with bullying.

The Headmistress, Mrs Waite, is a business woman and will go to any extreme to get her way, this includes putting children under duress to obtain scholarships, which by the way are in decline.

The past year's Scholarship Board only had one scholarship. In its place, they posted all the schools were children were given a placement.

The school is basically riding in past reputation, but definitely in decline, we had to move somewhere else as sadly we bought into the reputation only to find out that we had to tutor our children heavily, as everyone else. They are no longer offering Greek. Latin is in decline and of lately some parents have described it as a cruise with a sad crew running it.

One good thing is that as a parent, you have a strong voice, no issue is too little or to big to get the Headmistress to do whatever you ask her to do. The client is always right in this school/business.

There are other schools, like Hampton Boys or Shrewbury House with a better reputation, stronger academic level. However, the school might just be what you like, so best to check it yourself and decide yourself.

Forgot to mention, one good point is that if your child's first language is not English, they are now offering ESOL lessons. So if this is the case, he will not be too challenged as they are not streaming their classes anymore. This offers the opportunity to children whose English is not their first language to thrive.

What's the update on Milbourne Lodge please ? I am hesitating between Felton Fleet, Milbourne Lodge and Shrewsbury house. My boy is 5, going into Year 1 in September. They all have a space for him. It's very close to where I live but is the lack of facilities and therefore sports a real thing?
