Kenya prep schools

Hi all, exciting times ahead and we’re planning a move to Kenya. We have three girls, all of prep school age. School fees will be funded by work happily! Have heard lots about the Kenya ‘British’ prep school scene - good and bad! Can anyone help with some top tips and recommendations. We’ll be based on the edge of Nairobi but very open to weekly boarding if it’s safe. Or a good day school in the city? Been told there’s a couple of boarding schools to the west? Any info gratefully received! Thanks.

Hi Bubblypig3. We lived in Kenya for several years. The Nairobi day prep schools are great - Peponi, Banda and Kenton are worth considering. Kenton is thought of as the academic one and Banda the sporty one. Peponi also has a senior school and is an all-rounder I think. Bear in mind that Nairobi traffic can be awful so people really do pick the school based on where they live. All of the above three schools are in nice but different suburbs. Up Country you have St Andrew’s which is a senior school. Boarding, quite Christian and very good I think. The other one is Pembroke House that we know horror stories about - lots of bad cases of bullying, very low academics and staff morale there very low too. Number of children leaving due to unhappiness recently. Hope that helps.

I know about Kenton and Banda having a brilliant reputation. Have also heard that Pembroke House has some very worrying things going on at the moment. Steer clear I think.

Don’t know about Peponi really. There’s also a Durham School opened in Nairobi recently. ISK is the big international school (much more American and not British) but lots of diplomat/multinationals kids. Well regarded.

And also Hillcrest and the Braeburn schools for anyone searching under “Nairobi”. Kinda odd to miss them out! Definitely on the friendlier side :)
