Dc is now in year 2 and doesnt get any homework besides reading. Lots of his school friends seem to do workbooks after school but DC isnt so keen. How much 'work' do you do with your primary aged child outside of school other than reading?

Y4 - half an hour of spelling and half an hour of maths a week (plus the reading).

Y2. Has homework every weekend. Two pages of Schofield & Sims English grammar, two pages of White Rose maths, and reading for 10 minutes each night. This weekend’s homework has taken 1h 20m ish because DC writes slowly (as they all do at 6y). Personally, I think that’s too long for that age, although I’m not against a bit of homework. The more general problem is that you have to do with them!

No homework during the week - just reading - same timings.

I think it depends on the school and the parent. Some parents give their children extra homework. I know one school that does not give homework, but the parents all give their dc homework. My dc school gives some homework - spelling, reading task and math sheet for the week. It is not much. They give extra work as well for those that want it (we don't want it lol so don't do it). But the last year we have been also prepping for the 11+ so the work has kicked up a notch from previous years.
