Bute House / Lambrook & General 7+ musings

Hi all,

My dd is 7. She will be taking the 7+ entry for both Bute and Lambrook School. Schools that are both very different but I have a soft spot for each. We live in Chiswick so she can attend both schools easily (either school bus with Lambrook or car drop off with Bute).

For parents who made the plunge to go single sex route for their kids — any regrets? Same for Co-Ed? It feels like she should experience Co-Ed at some stage, but this could happen at a later date for sixth form etc. She is confident and currently has an equal share of boy and girl friends in her current class. Not sure if single sex would be too much of a change or if it’s too early in her education to make a difference?

My dd is very bright and is also very sporty. Lambrook’s vast green spaces and sports facilities are brilliant. On the other hand, the girls at Bute seemed really settled and naturally curious. Again, both schools are on different ends of the spectrum and it’s not guaranteed she’ll even receive offers to either. I’m just looking for a place to hear from other parents in the event she does get offers from both.

Thanks,
Mama T x

Bute house parent here with a friend who lives next to Lambrook. Lambrook school is way too far for you to travel with a 7 year old every day! Think of the traffic at these commuting times. I would also hope the school would see your address and say this isn’t a healthy daily commute! This school attracts Windsor and countryside Berkshire kids! Even for secondary it’s a little too far to travel in my opinion.
Bute house is amazing! Both my girls are happy here and the school attracts girls from Chiswick, Ealing and Barnes area so at least she would be able to have play dates and a good social life with children that do not live so far away. Also very different parents. Bute is very down to earth and a good mix of children and working class parents. My friend told me it’s all about who drives the better car at Lambrook! Not sure how true that is but they are very different schools. Bute is the best all girls school ( in my opinion) we have tried a few! and I find the teaching, facilities and pastoral care amazing here! It isn’t just a hot house, they have children in acting, sport and support the children’s interests and ambitions immensely. If you are looking at boarding from 13+ a lot do go from lambrook but you could always just have your daughter join at 11+ for 2 years until she boards elsewhere and then she could make some friends for boarding also.

Thanks for sharing your view. May I ask which schools were your DD previously at and why they don’t compare to Bute? We didn’t get the lottery for Bute so was wondering if we should do 7+ or not. Thanks
