Hi, I’m bit confused how this works I’m trying to figure out which school would be best for my daughter she’s currently in reception. Basically the school she’s in now is reception class of two 24 pupils then year 1 and 2 mixed so I’m not sure how that works. Has anyone found mixed classes to be beneficial or make any difference the other school I was offered a place at is separate year groups of 30. Any opinions appreciated

My now 16 year old was in a mixed year 1/2 class when he was in year 1. It worked really well for him and it meant he got to know the children in the year above better. I do find with all these things there are advantages and disadvantages. My now 18 year old was in a mixed year R and 1 class when he was in year 1. He has autism and he struggled a bit with the different rules for the year 1's. He used to get a bit confused and indignant when the year R's got to do things the year 1's couldn't when they were in the same class. Having said that, my dc3 was always in a class with just his year group and he struggled with being in year 1 too.
