Any tips? We are doing it on Friday and local authority have been very unhelpful. Told us Ofsted on prospective candidates was fine and it really wasn't...

Did any of you have to split the interviewing panel and thus not see all of the candidates do all of their tasks....

HELP

Make sure you ask searching questions about how they would manage the budget. The head has to manage the school, not just teach and manage the teachers.

yes, we have many questions on that thorny area, esp as we have the dreaded deficit budget.

You could ask

what changes are you going to make?

what do you think you will keep?

Spliting into groups and seeingt he candidates separately (them giving presentations to each of you) is a good idea. you can get chance to talk about their presentations inbetween which is good (or reflect and make notes if you dont discuss between). You can then get back togetehr as a full panel for the afternoona dn have big presentation / interview than. I always think it helps to remember that these people are going to be managers NOT TEACHERS. They should know exactly what good teaching looks like and the steps they would take to improve poor teaching but they are not teachers themselves, they are managers.
What makes a good teacher?
What would they do0 if they saw poor teaching? what steps would they take?
How would they manage a deficit budget and still ensure that the school kept up to date and current ?(remember this is tricky - you cant just stiop spending as this has massive repercussions in long term)
How would they manage change? remember its not about what they would change but how they would do it?!

death by buffet - how great! You can tell so much about people ina social situation. Choosing a person to suit your school is really important.

Yes, a bit of a task, hence my 'relaxing' with MN!
Cod, fancy seeing you here. Thanks, I'll look at that thread.
