Little Wandle - Year 2

DD has just done her first guided reading session of Year 2 with the class LA - she’s the same LA as last year so there’s a bit of continuity. DD has just been put into reading band 5b, I’m really confused about whether she’s on track or not for beginning Year 2? I can’t find any useful information anywhere and the only information I’ve found suggests that she should have been reading Phase 5 books in Year 1? We’ve been reading a variety of books over the holidays and I felt that she was reading quite well but the book she was given today (5b) seems simpler than what she has been managing and yet she was tripping over some of the words! Do I just assume she’s tired from being back in school and will figure things out when she’s back in the flow of things? Does anyone with any experience know if 5b sounds right for her age or does she need a bit more help?

Thank you!

@Pinkstegosaurus I would ask @MNHQ to move this over to Primary Education as you're likely to get more replies on reading in Primary Schools in there but as is always the advice in these things, if you're concerned I'd also have a quick chat with her Teacher Wink

@PolaroidPrincess thanks, I did think that I should move it! I have since sent an email to the school asking for clarification with her teacher but would love for some outside perspective as well!

I think it's normal to be worried about your DC Wink
