Ds2, now in year 2, is struggling with reading. He is well below the expected reading age and I think he has difficulty translating the phonics phrases and sounds into other words. Eg he knows ow brown cow, but won't accept that it also goes into owl, wow, bow etc. I would like to get some books for home to read with him so we can focus on the words, not just the component parts.
He is autistic and his deep interests are all related to plants. Particularly the ways of growing them and tropical plants. Can anyone recommend learning to read type books that cover plant related subjects? He likes nonfiction as much as fiction.
