Hello,

I will be moving to Rotherham from Cambridge are for work in a few months. I have a kid who is primary school age and I am looking at renting properties that are affordable and have good schools in the area. My work is located in Catcliffe. I am okay to drive up to 15 miles, but, prefer to keep the commute to half hour. Can anyone please help point me to the areas where I should look for rentals? Our budget is max of £1000 pcm.

Many thanks for your help and consideration

I'm ot sure about rental prices, but my friend lives in Wales (the village, not the country!) And is happy with Wales Primary.

For commuting... the roadworks on the M1 around there is a real pain at the moment.

Slightly further out (17 miles, but a lot of country lanes rather than jammed up urban roads) gets you to Penistone, which has a highly sought after high school (Penistone Grammar) and some good primary schools at Thurgoland and Silkstone as well as in town at St John's.

It's a small market town. Nice countryside. Train to Sheffield/Huddersfield. 10 mins from M1 J37. Biggish Tesco. Independent cinema.

15 miles from Catcliffe gives you a lot of Sheffield, including some very well heeled leafy parts (S11, but these are likely more than 30 mins drive at rush hour); lots of old pit villages/small towns in various degrees of run down-ness/recovery; and loads of countryside. It also gives you some less salubrious parts of Sheffield. Rotherham itself isn't great, but the area around Greaseboroufh/Rawmarsh is ok, and Clifton Park (the park itself) is great for primary age kids!

What kind of area would you like? No point in suggesting glorious countryside if you really want city centre.

Dronfield? 10 miles from Catcliffe, 2 bed houses to rent for £800pcm and really good schools. Lots of amenities - supermarkets, pubs, restaurants

Dronfield is a really good shout. Easy motorway access to Catckiffe, which also has easy motorway access!!

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads : Thank you for your message. We really prefer the country side to the City. Also, would you recommend Chesterfield? Is it overall better than Rotherham?
