I’m reading mixed stuff. We’ve got 115 for SPAG, 109 for Reading, 116 for Maths. Teacher told us she was disappointed.? Child reports max is 120 so I think can’t be that bad?? Can’t find any guidance other than 100 is average, but surely that depends on the range?? I don’t want to be dicky but I’m assuming we shouldn’t be ‘disappointed’?! (If relevant we are state school with middle level achieving child??) x

100 is meeting expectations, anything over and above is exceeding 🤷🏼‍♀️ the teacher is insane…

Phillipa12 · 12/07/2024 04:45

I'm assuming that teacher is disappointed with the SPAG result and was hoping it was nearer the other two. Those results are amazing!

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 12/07/2024 05:17

100 is expected. 110 and over is greater depth and your child missed it by one point so that's why she is disappointed because she probably thought your child was working at greater depth.

CurlewKate · 12/07/2024 05:59

Did you ask the teacher what she meant?

Thisismynewusernamedoyoulikeit · 12/07/2024 07:16

Well he's not middle acheiving, he is at greater depth in SPAG and maths. That's fantastic. Presumably her teacher assessment was that he is greater depth across the board (so reading as well), and he didn't quite manage to show that on the day.

It's not an issue for your son though. He's doing really well!

Hopebridge · 12/07/2024 09:01

My DS got 113 across the board (bizarre the same for all 3) and this was greater depth. They can only get 120 as a maximum. I imagine it's the teacher saying that due to them just missing out on GD? Regardless they saying that is completely wrong and I would be disappointed in the teachers attitude.

I told my son I was proud of him regardless of how he did. It's more for the teacher and school regardless. Doesn't take away from the considerable amount of hard work the kids put in (and some of the pressure they feel from some schools).

Well done to all the children that got results :)

I really wouldn’t worry OP.
11 is so young still and a lot of children comeninto their own in secondary school. I did. Very much average in year 6 (except for literacy), but I went on to get 10 GCSEs at A*. Fell in live with learning with separate classes and teachers in Year 9.

JustAnotherUsey · 12/07/2024 16:06

My son got all above 110. On his report his teacher has given him secure and working towards! I have concerns that the teacher doesn't know my child at all! Worrying for the end of year 6!

Hopebridge · 12/07/2024 18:30

The report isn't just SATS it's based upon the whole year if that helps. The SATS is more of a snapshot. Did you speak to the teacher regarding this?

This is helpful

Our school didn’t mention greater depth for SATS scores. Only GD was noted as an option for the teacher assessed writing and science. Here they just said that SATS score of 100 or over is working at or above expected level. I’ve read that GD is 110 by some websites and 115 by other sites. Not actually sure!

arinya · 12/07/2024 18:40

Ignore that, just seen the school have said

A scaled score of 100 is the government’s ‘expected standard
•A scaled score of 110+ is considered as ‘working at a higher standard’

cansu · 12/07/2024 18:44

Teachers being disappointed and expressing that to parents and children is wrong. I am a teacher. When I taught year 6 I always treated the results in a low key way and bigger up effort over scores. Being disappointed with scores is for the school to discuss privately.

Idk what the teacher's going on about, 115/109/116 is a superb set of marks and you should be very proud. End of.
