Hi All,
Re: Bousfield Primary School
I can’t find any new, up to date facts & info on how Bousfield is doing post Covid and since the new Head has taken over.
Glowing reports about the school are over a decade old.

Look on their website. Read their newsletters. What clubs do they offer, what trips do the children make to enhance the curriculum, what visitors do they invite in, what special days do they participate in. How do they involve parents in school life, do they run information evenings about the curriculum, about on line safety.

Look at the information published annually by the government which will show how well the school is performing in terms of KS2 markers for reading, writing, and maths in comparison to other similar schools. How many children are achieving national standards, how many are exceeding expectations.

Hang around the school at home time, how do the children come out, do they seem happy and calm, how do they staff speak to them, you can gauge a lot about the atmosphere inside the school about what happens outside. If they are having a summer fair go along and do some discreet snooping, ask parents running stalls about the school.

All their newsletters are on their website - they give a great insight into the school. Last summer’s SATs results and their Secondary destinations are also available.

I don’t think this year’s Reception distances are available online yet, but their office can probably tell you.

I think the first prospective parents’ tour is next week.

Did you get any feedback on how Bousfield is doing post Covid?
New Head finding her feet so it is not a ‘well oiled machine’ that it needs to be.
Very short of funds too but a lot of other State schools struggling too.
its very different set up since I knew it in previous years but that could also be due to the world that is changing around us too..

I’ve only heard good things about Bousfield and have many friends with children that are current students. The children always look happy when I see them on the school run. Two form entry may not be for everyone but it seems to still to be an excellent local primary and the recent Ofsted report supports that. Best thing to do is to attend a prospective parents session and get a sense of the environment, as other have suggested.

From what I hear the current leadership team are working hard at destroying what was special and wonderful about Bousfield: no more weekly dance lessons for everyone, music much less prominent than it used to be, a uniform will be introduced.

Someone knowledgeable about schools in the borough (involved in running schools in the borough) told me she felt it was justified that the school was downgraded to "good" by Ofsted. However, Bousfield still has an intake of children with highly ambitious parents. There is lots of tutoring going on and leavers transfer to highperforming secondaries.
