Since reception DS has been a good student in that no behavioural problems and working beyond expectations in core subjects. He lost confidence in maths towards the end of year 2 but still did pretty well in his year 2 SATS.
As year 3 has progressed he has been consistently being told off for low level disruptions in class and with a fall academically to meeting expectations in reading and writing and below expectation in maths. Teacher explains this is because he is chatting so much he is missing instructions.
I want to set him right for year 4 but I’m at a bit of a loss - I’m not sure whether it’s a bad chemistry with this particular teacher (he does say that she shouts but I’m not putting too much weight onto that for if he’s chatting a lot I don’t blame her) or whether it’s his classmates - this particular year has been touted as one of the worst the school has ever known! But either way, he IS being disruptive (chatting and lack of focus) and more worryingly his grades are falling.
Ive symptom checked for ADHD and that doesn’t seem to fit. He’s a bit of a quirky character but on the whole loves to learn and is actually quite introverted.
Im happy to get him some private tuition if needed but just at a bit of a loss of the change. And im guessing what im asking is, is it possible to have a ‘bad year’ then pull it back?
thanks if you got this far and all advice welcome.
