Popularity at school

Does anyone apart from me worry constantly about the popularity of their reception child? I know this is not healthy, but it breaks my heart to hear my little one say she played on her own at playtime as she only has one friend and she was off sick. I missed out on lots of playdates in September cos I had a baby and now the groups seem to have formed without my daughter. I feel guilty. Is there anything I can do to boost her own confidence? She does not seem very happy at the moment.

my ds is not yet at reception but I will be joining you in the worrying ranks I am certain! I've seen other threads on here with other mums with the same concerns so perhaps one of them will come along. I do know that one of them set about the issue with dogged determination, taking dc to all sorts of extracurricular events and entertainments (sorry can't remember the posters name but will try). Not simple for you with a baby to care for though obviously.

Speaking to class teacher to put her with other kids for activities, tidying up and so on, this has helped my small niece make new friends...

I'm also sure it will settle down and she will hit her stride eventually.

shes only in reception so very very early days - perhaps start to invite children over for tea regularly so she gets to know them more - are any going to brownies/ballet or whatever that she can go to as well? that way she can get to know some different children too

Thanks. Am going to try a few playdates over the holidays. The girls are just beginning to get a bit cliquey in the class and I guess I just want her to be happy.
