PRIMARY SCHOOL WAITING LIST

Hi, i was just wondering if anyone could share experiences of waiting lists for primary schools, especially in the Birmingham (Sutton Coldfield area). We are 5th on one waiting list and 2nd on the other.
Waiting lists were made available today. In people's experiences, is there a second wave of offers (i.e. all available places are offered up to waiting list in one go once late applications are processed), or are they offered up as and when they become available?
Birmingham feels tricky given people don't have to officially accept offers (only reject), so what do you think our chances are of movement over the summer?
Thanks

Our experience last year was we had 2 continual interest runs, 1 in May and 1 in June and we didn't find out where we were on the waiting list until June. All councils vary it would seem but if parents do not need to accept the offer (which sounds odd) there will likely be huge movement after the interest runs complete...
We got our 3rd place offered last year and we were added to the waiting lists automatically........ we got our place offered in July if that helps?

Not Birmingham but we were 5th on the list and got in two days into the start of the Autumn term. I don't think much happens over the school holidays and things can change when the reception kids actually turn up (or don't) for their first day.

You might want to 'report' your post to ask MNHQ to put Sutton Coldfield in the title of your thread so people from that area notice it. If that doesn't work, you could start a new thread mentioning Sutton Coldfield.

I live reasonably locally to Sutton Coldfield and my DC is in secondary school so I don't have direct, recent experience of primary school waiting lists in that exact area, but nine years ago, when my DC got a place at a one form intake primary five miles away, there was no movement in pupils between the settling in session in July and the first day, and after that nobody left the class for the first two years.

Most of the Sutton Coldfield primaries are good, and therefore popular, and there is not a great deal of transient population in the area, so from that perspective I wouldn't expect a great deal of movement.

However, as Sutton Coldfield does have two grammar schools, there will be some parents wanting to send their children to private pre-prep and prep schools, so it is possible some people will have received a state school offer but actually send their child to a private school. I would expect this to be spotted in early July when there may be settling in sessions or forms that parents haven't filled in.

Do you have a place at a primary but are hoping for a better/closer one, or do you not have a place at all?

Best of luck.
