Hello ,
My friends daughter is currently in year 7 indepedent school.
She has told me that they got the call from their prefered school that her daughter has a seat.
Is this possible now? Is waiting list valid a year ?

Depends on the school. Some will hold waiting lists indefinitely, if parents want to continue on them, especially for the first couple of years of secondary.

Perfectly possible. Presumably she either passed the 11 plus or was otherwise assessed as being suitable for grammar.
